The Midland Recyclers Recycling and Reuse Center

Where you are the Recycler.

The Recycling Center is a do-it-yourself drop-off, open to residents, schools, organizations and businesses in the Great Lakes Bay region.  To ensure and quick and easy drop-off experience please bring only acceptable materials and prepare them as indicated below.

Hours of Operation

Monday – Friday:  8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Wednesday:  8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Saturday:  9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

What items can I bring to the Recycling Center?

Keep the following types of paper separate from each other.

Midland Recyclers sends them off to different processors and therefore has a dedicated collection container for each type of paper at the Recycling Center.

Recyclable Paper

  • Corrugated cardboard, flattened and paper bags
  • Cereal and boxboard, flattened
  • Office paper and mail
  • Shredded paper (Shred your paper at the recycling center!)*
  • Magazines and catalogs, glossy
  • Newspapers and everything that comes in them
  • Phone books
All items must be clean, rinsed out, with lids removed. Most plastic bottles and containers are marked with a number surrounded by the recycling symbol.

Keep the following types of plastic separate from each other.

Recyclable Plastic

  • #1 bottles, clear or translucent
  • #2 bottles, must have seam across bottom
  • #2 all other shapes and sizes
  • #2 milk jugs
  • #3-#6 plastic
  • Plastic bags, all types accepted, including shrink wrap
  • Bubble Wrap and Air Pillows (keep separate from plastic bags)
  • Vinyl siding
  • Foam sheets
  • Polystyrene foam (PS6) – often used to pack electronics and large appliances.
  • Loop carriers – 6 and 8 pack beverage rings
Keep the following types of metal separate from each other.

Midland Recyclers sends them off to different processors and therefore has a dedicated collection container for each material at the Recycling Center. Remember . . . All items must be clean, rinsed out, with lids removed.

Recyclable Metal

  • Steel cans, including aerosol
  • Aluminum, all sizes and types accepted

  • Clear container glass
Miscellaneous Recyclables

  • NI-CAD and rechargeable batteries, auto and marine
  • Ink jet cartridges $
  • Returnable cans and bottles $
  • Juice Pouches
  • Candy wrappers
  • corks
  • altoid type tins


$ These items help support Midland Recyclers operation.

*Did you know about the paper shredder at the recycling center?  It is a light duty industrial shredder that can shred 100 sheets at a time.  It is a self serve shredder that you can come in and use anytime.  (Donations appreciated!)

 

Midland Recyclers Reuse Area

The Reuse Center has unbelievable low prices on items that can be used in the classroom, by art students, crafters, and anyone looking for creative ways to save money through reuse.  Come check out the Reuse Center for yourself!

Call ahead to confirm what you’re looking for is available.  Special orders are welcome.

Manufacturer’s scraps are also welcome.  Please call ahead to verify that we have a need and room for your scraps.

How is the recycling center different from the curbside program?

Midland Recyclers is a non-profit organization dedicated to recycling all materials possible, even those that are marginally profitable . Midland Recyclers offers volunteer opportunities and free educational programs to people of all ages and abilities.
